Vatican City: Pope Francis Honours Obiano as a Papal Knight

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has been bestowed with the order of a Papal Knight today in Rome, Italy.

According to reports, the Governor arrived the Vatican City safely with his family, three principal officers, and a few friends as is customary with the ceremony, for the special honour.

The Papal Knighthood is a highly revered honour in the Catholic Church, bestowed in the name of the Pope by his authority as the head of the Holy See and Sovereign of the Vatican City State.

A practice that dates back to the middle ages, the Papal Knighthood is usually conferred on an individual in acknowledgment of his service to the Church.

Long before he was elected governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano had established his presence as one of the pillars of the Catholic Church in Nigeria with a string of verifiable activities in service of the church across two dioceses.

His support for the Catholic Church has not waned since he became governor especially with the recent reconstruction of the over one hundred years old St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Aguleri, his hometown.
