ACTDA Seals Off Illegal Workshops At Amawbia Bypass, Awka South Council Area
Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, has
sealed off some illegally erected workshops around the Amawbia bypass within
the Enugu Onitsha expressway following a tanker explosion that claimed one
life.
The Agency after the exercise convened a meeting of all the
wielders and mechanics along the axis in its office at Awka aimed at averting
future occurrence.
Addressing them, the Managing Director and Chief Executive
officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, Venerable Amaechi
Okwuosa stressed the urgent need for fire prevention and their safety.
Venerable Okwuosa explained that their workshops are sited
at a wrong place while some of the shops were erected without approvals, hence
the need for their demolition.
He announced the state government’s plan to build a mechanic
village for their permanent relocation and mandated each of them to have at
least two fire extinguishers for petroleum and electrical fire outbreaks.
The ACTDA Boss further urged them to always keep their
environment clean by erecting toilet facilities, clearing the bushes to curb
fire outbreak, and fencing their workshops, which according to him will reduce
car vandalism and theft .
Responding , one of the participants, Mr. Tony Chukwudozie
appealed for the establishment of a tipper garage.
On his part, Mr. Bartholomew Chinedu, who described the idea
as a welcome development, requested for some time to enable them to get a
better place until the mechanic village is ready.
