Accusations, counter accusations trail burning of Ebonyi APC Chairman's house

Suspected hoodlums have allegedly burnt down the country home of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Ebonyi State, Stanley Okoro-Emegha.

The incident which occurred on Monday night at Ekoli Edda, in  Afikpo South Local Government Area of the state was alleged to have been spearheaded by hoodlums playing script for beneficiary politicians.

According to a source, prior to the fire incident,  loyalists of the immediate past chairman of the Afikpo South LGA, Eni China, on December 24, attacked the Ebonyi APC Chairman because of his refusal to support the election of a youth group in the community led by China.

According to the anonymous source,  Okoro-Emegha was displeased with the election and reported to the new council area chairman, Chima Ekumankama, who eventually cancelled the election and disbanded the said youth group.

The incident, according to the source, evolved into a gun duel where the hoodlums and Okoro-Emegha men opened fire on each other, an incident that led to him fleeing to Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.

Report says that it was after he fled to Abakaliki that his country home was allegedly set ablaze by suspected hoodlums.

However, the Ebonyi APC Chairman himself has come out to confirm the incident about how he was attacked by thugs loyal to a politician in the area, and that his house has equally been burnt by the miscreants.

Okoro-Emegha submitted that: “Yes. It’s true. They attacked me tonight at Ekoli Edda community, and the same people, some of whom I know, I have just heard burnt my house.

“These are Eni’s boys and they attacked me and they are the people that burnt my house. I call on the police and other security agencies to swing into action. They know what to do to unravel the truth of the matter. They know what to do," he alleged.
