Idoko Set to Appoint New King After Years Without a Monarch

Idoko is a town located in the Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, Nigeria. The town is rich in history and culture, and it is known for its unique customs and traditions. One of the most important aspects of the town's culture is its traditional kingship system, which has been in place for centuries.

The late king, HRH Oba Joseph Adeteju Adeyeye II, ascended the throne in 1988. Before becoming king, he was a successful businessman and community leader. He had several close friends, including the late Ooni of Ife Oba Okunade Sijuade, the late Otunba Solomon Olusesan Aoko, the late Alowa of Ilowa Oba Allyson, and the late Aloko of Iloko Ijesa Oba Oladele Olashore.

During his reign, Oba Adeyeye II did a lot for the town. He built schools, churches, and empowered widows in the town. He also helped some of the youths to study abroad and some to get permanent jobs in the local government. He was a beloved king who was greatly respected by his people.

After Oba Adeyeye II's demise, his sister, Princess Florence Agboola nee Adeyeye, became the regent of the town. She served as regent for several years until the town is now set to appoint a new king.

Idoko has a rich history, and it is believed that the town was founded by a prince from Ido Ajinare. Ido Ajinare migrated from Ile-Ife, the ancestral home of the Yoruba people.

Idoko also has several potential resources, including its rich cultural heritage, fertile land, and natural resources. However, the town has been lacking in certain areas since the demise of the last king. The appointment of a new king is expected to bring development and progress to the town, and it is hoped that the new king will continue the legacy of his predecessors and serve his people well.

The key kingmakers of Idoko are Obalora, Ejemo, Aro, Odofin, and Sajiku. These kingmakers play an important role in the appointment of a new king.

Following consultations, it is believed that the new king will come from one of the 21 families entitled to the throne, and he is a lawyer and politician who is based in Canada for years. The process of appointing a new king is expected to be completed in 2023, and a new king will be crowned in Idoko before the end of 2023.
