FG’s approach to economy unproductive – Gani Adams

 By Bola Bamibola

The National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress, Chief Gani Adams, has called on the Federal Government to resolve security and economic challenges confronting the country with pragmatic reforms to save the economy and tackle forex scarcity.

Adams also said with the current approach would be difficult to fix the country’s economy.

The OPC leader, who is also the Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, spoke at an event organised by Olokun Foundation on Friday in Osogbo, Osun State, as part of this year’s Osun-Osogbo festival.

He noted that from all indications, the President, Major Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was too aloof to have full grasp of the enormity of the socio-economic challenges bedeviling the country. He said, “It is genuinely difficult to fix the Nigerian economy with the present approach. There is no guarantee that this economic slide can last beyond next year, unless the Federal Government can embark on holistic economic reforms.”

Suggesting ways out of the economic crises, Adams said the Federal Government must change the regulatory mechanism in order to stop the never-ending security scourge.

“The Federal Government should resolve the security and economic challenges with pragmatic reform to save the economy and tackle forex scarcity.

“The Federal Government must reduce wastage in governance and focus more on economic project that will stimulate the economy and guarantee enabling environment.

“Finally, we can easily salvage the dwindling economy by creating an enabling economic environment for local businesses to thrive,” he concluded.
