FIFA Slam Nigeria With Sanctions Over Fracas At MKO Abiola Stadium

World football governing body, FIFA, has come down hard on Nigeria following the ugly scenes that greeted the Super Eagles’ Qatar 2022 World Cup playoff against Ghana’s Black Stars at the M.K.O Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

FIFA, slammed a 150,000 Swiss Franc (about 154,128.75 USD) fine on Nigeria following the ugly acts of fans at the stadium on the 29th of March.

Nigerian fans at the stadium had invaded the stadium on the said date after the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw encounter with Black Stars of Ghana which saw Nigeria out of the Qatar 2022 race on the away goals rule.

The statement according to FIFA, Nigeria’s fines were a result of failure to implement “Order and security at matches (failure to implement existing safety rules and failure to ensure that law and order are maintained in the stadium, invasion of the field of play and throwing of objects)”.

Apart from the 150,000 CHF fine, Nigeria will play its next home match without fans.
