Yoruba in the South-West have one problem- El-Rufai

In the viral video that was released by the Punch Newspaper Online yesterday evening, it was seen that the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, in a meeting with some people, narrated how they dealt with the issue of tribalism and religion in the Politics of Nigeria.

While he was talking, he claimed that the first step they took was that, they supported that power should go to the west (South-West) and not remain in the North and due to that, they supported Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Further talking, he claimed that the second step they took, was to deal with the issue of tribalism and religion and while they were deliberating on how Tinubu will win, Professor Ishaq Akintola, came from Lagos State to have a discussion with them.

El-Rufai claimed that, Professor Ishaq Akintola, told them that the South-West geopolitical zone, had one problem.

He said, "When Prof Akintola came to us, he told us Yoruba people in the South-West have one problem. He said their Muslim cannot contest election and the win and that a Christian will have to emerge from the South-West, and he will pick his running mate, Muslim, from the North. He said since the time of Abiola, it had never happen."

Further talking, El-Rufai said Professor Akintola, told them they wanted a Muslim from South-West to win and he (El-Rufai) told them to bring the person and Tinubu later emerged as the flag bearer. And they knew he would have to take Muslim as his vice-president in the North because, with a Northern Christian, he (Tinubu) can never win the election.

He said, "And that was how Tinubu won."
