United Nigeria Set To Raise Quality Engineers From UNIZIK

 


All is now set for the commencement, in October, of the engineering internship scholarship, offered by Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, to students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, in Anambra state, City post learnt.


This followed the signing and exchange of the final documents and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Prof. Okonkwo and Vice Chancellor of UNIZIK, Prof. Charles Esimone, in Abuja on Friday.


According to the agreement, Prof. Okonkwo will take between 10 to 20 engineering students of UNIZIK on a fully funded internship scholarship at the engineering department of United Nigeria Airlines, which he founded. The lucky students will also be fully accommodated and paid stipends by the company during the duration of the internship where they will be taken through the rudiments of aircraft engineering.


The students also have the opportunity to immediate employment upon completion of their National youth service scheme.


It will be recalled that Prof. Okonkwo in October 2021, unveiled a series of plans to boost human capital development at the University.


Unveiling his plans for the university last October, Prof. Okonkwo promised, among the internship scholarships offered, to also facilitate the introduction of a Russian language department at the university as well as an academic exchange programme between UNIZIK and Russian universities on the platform of the Nigeria-Russia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NRCCI), which he heads as President. He also promised to facilitate poultry production at the university in conjunction with his foundation, Pro-Humanity value Foundation.


Agreements to these effects were also signed and sealed between Okonkwo and Prof. Esimone, with the Director of Administration at United Nigeria, Mr. Linus Awute and a member of the council of the university, Prof. Meshach Umenweke, in attendance.


Prof. Okonkwo agrees to provide “professional assistance to the students of the faculty of engineering of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU) which will be facilitated through the use of industrial training and work experience to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of academic, administrative services and activities for the students”.
