The Ruling Is Unacceptable – APC Reacts To Sack Of Gov Umahi

An Abuja Federal High Court ruling on Tuesday which rid Governor David Umahi of his political position has been berated by his party, the All Progressive Congress, APC.

According to the Ebonyi State chapter of the party, the court ruling is not acceptable and cannot be taken seriously. A statement credited to the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Ebonyi, Mr. Simbad Chidi, described the sack by the court as a ‘disturbance to democracy’ in the state. The party’s mouthpiece insists that today’s ruling in Abuja cannot overrule the State High Court that upheld Umahi’s defection to APC from the opposition party years ago. Naija News reports that Justice Inyang Ekwo of an Abuja Federal High Court earlier today sacked Governor Umahi and his Deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe from office. The judge found the defection of the politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to APC as unlawful. Justice Ekwo ordered Umahi and his Deputy to immediately vacate their offices, stressing that their defection was unlawful, unconstitutional, null, and void. Ekwo held that the vote which brought the governor and his Deputy into office belonged to the PDP and that they cannot hold onto the votes having elected to jettison the party that nominated them. Meanwhile, the National Secretary of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC),

It was gathered that Akpanudoedehe had left the party’s national secretariat at Blantyre Street, Wuse 2, Abuja, with all his belongings, Leadership reports. Naija News reports that his resignation may be connected to the sack of Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and subsequent takeover of party leadership by Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello.
