Work on-going at second Niger Bridge -Julius Berger

IT has been described as untrue the report that work at the second Niger bridge is stalled by a group in the South East over compensation of N5 billion by Julius Berger, the firm handling the project.

The project supervisor, Oluwaseyi hinted National Light that the project has never suffered a set back since mobilization, noting that work is still on-going as usual.

His words, “since we mobilized to site, work has been going on. No one has come to make any demand because we paid compensation to the host community and we also had a memorandum of understanding whereby the host communities are employed and given some form of supplies to the company.

“The work has reached an advanced stage and the deadline for commissioning of the project would be met”

Earlier, former Chairman Ogbaru Local Government Area, Calista Nwachukwu dismissed the report of some host communities as untrue. She said that those peddling what she described as rumour are enemies of the South East who are out to discredit the federal government and create apprehension.
Nwachukwu said it was unfortunate for them as they were disappointed that their prayers for the bridge to remain uncompleted did not come through.

“They have now fashioned other means to cause confusion to justify the money received from their paymaster”.

Meanwhile National Light  gathered that some host communities and a group of individuals are unhappy with the compensation so far paid to them. They claimed that middle men were responsible for their plight.
