Herbalist five others arrested for armed robbery in Ogun
A herbalist and five other suspected armed robbers have been
arrested by the Ogun State Police Command.
The suspects
identified as Sukanmi Ogundimu, Tosin Adebanjo, Toheeb Ogundare, Ahmed Oloyede,
Emmanuel Ogunshina aka Emma SARS and Adebisi Remilekun, were accused of
launching a midnight attack against one Alfa Rifhat Ashraf, who was injured and
left with machete cuts.
Ogun State's police
spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the incident said the suspects
committed the crime on January 21, 2020 at No 1, Akorede Estate, Olomoore
behind Crescent University, Abeokuta. They reportedly dispossessed Ashraf and
his wife of five different types of mobile phones, one laptop, N60,000 and
other valuables.
The suspects were
arrested after being identified by their victims who filed a complaint with the
police.
Oyeyemi said;
“The suspects, according to the victims,
invaded their house in the midnight, armed with cutlass, and inflicted various
degrees of injury on Alfa Rifhat Ashraf after which they dispossessed him and
his wife of five different types of handsets, one laptop, cash sum of N60,000
and other valuables.
“On receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police gave a
marching order to the DPO, Lafenwa Division, CSP Muraina Ayilara, to go after
the hoodlums and bring them to justice.
“In compliance with the CP’s directive, the DPO and his
operatives commenced intelligence and technical investigation of the case which
led to the arrest of one member of the gang.
“The arrested gang member led the operatives to the house of
a herbalist at Olomoore area of Abeokuta which serves as hideout to the gang.
“On getting there, the place was cordoned off but
surprisingly the hoodlums attacked the police with cutlass, consequent upon
which one of them was shot, and five others arrested, along with the herbalist.
“Recovered from them are: one laptop, five different types
of handsets, one cutlass and charms. The gang leader, who is popularly known as
‘AK,’ escaped and a serious manhunt has been launched to effect his arrest.”
The police
spokesperson also revealed that the state Commissioner of Police, Kenneth
Ebrimson has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the Special Anti-Robbery
Squad (SARS) for discreet investigation.
