Soludo to FG: Release Nnamdi Kanu to me, stop killings in S'East

ANAMBRA State governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo has called on the federal government to release the detained leader of outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB) and end the deteriorating security situation in South-East Nigeria.

He said that if the federal government is in any doubt that the release of Mr. Kanu from the detention of the Directorate of State Security Services (DSS) will end the worsening orgy of killings and kidnapping in South-East or afraid that the detained would elope after bail, he (Soludo) would be allowed to surety for him.  He reasoned that Kanu's freedom will give the zone a sense of belonging in Nigeria.

"No one should be left behind. If we cannot afford to release him unconditionally as requested, let them release him to me. Release him to me. I now offer to be the surety... We will keep him here in Anambra State, whenever they want him, we will provide him but let these killings stop in South East, " the governor said.

The governor said this today during the flag-off of 2023 general elections campaign for his political party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, Anambra State.

He added that a prime mission of his government and the party is to check insecurity, ensure grassroots development and foster economic advancement.

National Chairman of APGA, Victor Oye who chaired the event said that the party as the rallying platform of all genuine progressive politicians and the "third largest political party in Nigeria" is a vehicle for grassroots advancement and economic solutions for the country. 

He gave Prof. Soludo's prudent,  rural infrastructure and economy-expanding administration in Anambra as an example of how APGA governments operate and excell.

Chief Oye presented his party's flag and symbol of authority to over 60 candidates who will run for APGA in various capacities during the February 25 and March 11 general elections. Among the flag bearers whose hands were raised by Oye during the occasion were the party's  presidential candidate, Peter Umeadi and its gubernatorial candidates in Abia, Delta, Plateau, Nasarawa, Enugu, Benue and Cross River states. Authorising flags were also presented to candidates seeking election into various levels of the federal and state legislature in the states as well as 44 candidates for national and state assembly positions in Anambra State.

In his speech after Oye raised his hand and handed him the flag, Prof. Umeadi, a former state chief judge, UN jurist and university don presented excerpts from his manifesto in which he pledged to tackle insecurity, check Nigeria's economic slip, restructure the nation and pay keen attention to grassroots development.

Among the speakers was the APGA Guber candidate for Delta State, Great Ogboru who said the party has gained a foothold in his state and the March 11 gubernatorial election will consolidate it.

In similar reasoning, Chief Oye noted that all the results of the 2023 elections across Nigeria will establish that APGA is "all over the country".

He cited Anambra as a state where the party's solid standing will always ensue a clean slide in the 2023 elections.

Former governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano emphasised the point, noting that the teeming following the party has in Anambra and environ which makes it do very well in the polls is still intact.

The huge crowd at the venue during the event and the carnival-like fanfare in Awka within the afternoon buttressed that APGA is still the trending political rallying point in the the state.
