Mrs Obiano welcomes Baby of The Year in Onitsha

On the heels of her special message from which she projected optimism and brighter prospects for all in the NewYear, wife of the governor of Anambra State and founder of  Caring Family Enhancement Initiative(CAFE), has welcomed the First Baby of the Year 2021, at General Hospital, Onitsha, Anambra State. 


Mrs Ifeoma Obizolu, an Onitsha-based business woman and mother of three delivered the  new-born at exactly 12: 12am on the first day of January, 2021. Mrs Obizolu  hails from Adazi-Ani, in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State. 


The baby girl, named Somma Obizolu weighed 4.8 kilograms.


Speaking shortly after handing over her gifts to the baby's family, Mrs Obiano, who was represented by  Anambra State Commissioner for Children and Women Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, said that the annual schedule was an important way of reaching out to interact and support mothers of newborns at the beginning of the year, and also thank God for the blessings that herald their birth.


Mrs Obiano observed that the baby's safe delivery despite her weight which ordinarily may require a caesarian section is a testimony to the good tidings that would define Anambra State for the rest of 2021.


The governor's wife reiterated her new year message of optimism, peace and hope in God's promises and urged everyone to see the difficulties of the past year as a part of Gods plan for a favourable and graceful New Year.


Expressing their joy and the good fortune of being visited by the governor's wife, the parents of the baby, Mr Ernest and Mrs Ifeoma Obizolu, said  they had known that their baby was special because of the events preceding her birth, adding that she was destined for something special.


Mrs Obizolu revealed that the delivery process,though tough, was worth the effort and thanked God for His mercies. 


The Obizolus also appreciated the governor's wife for the surprise visit and support for the baby with cash and various items, including cartons of diapers, baby products, clothes and households items for the baby's upkeep.


Earlier, the nurse in charge of the maternity warrd at the hospital, Mrs Chibuzo Emebo, said that the baby's weight right from when she was in the womb showed different normal delivery process, but added that with the right expertise, the hospital fought to have her successfully delivered.
