From OZO RAY
The 7th assembly of the Anambra State House of Assembly
yesterday repealed the 2017 Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching
Hospital law and re-enacted same after thorough debates and deliberations at
the committee of the whole .
After some surgical operations as well as amendment of some
clauses on the aforementioned law by the
legislators , Speaker of the House , Rt.Hon.Uche Victor Okafor said the new
legislation would read henceforth as " Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu
University Teaching Hospital Amaku Awka Law 2019 " and shall come into
force on the 10th day of December, 2019 .
Deputy Majority Leader of the House and member representing
Orumba-North state constituency , Hon.Emeka Aforka said the new law was timely
as it would help foster quality healthcare services for the citizenry .
Aforka also emphasized that the new law establishing the
teaching hospital has made it an institution with the necessary prerequisites
to train and groom new doctors and nurses that would attend to the health needs
of the populace .
He said the new law came into being because of the
inadequacies discovered in the 2017 repealed law , noting that all the
parameters that would enable the teaching hospital function optimally were
considered in the re-enacted law establishing the university teaching hospital
.
The lawmaker equally took cognisance of the fact that health
facilities were being renovated and refurbished across the entire state ,
pointing out that Anambra state was making significant progress in the health
sector .
