The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, has extended the validity period for air operator certificates.

The Chairman, Regulations Committee, Engr. Godwin Balang disclosed this on Tuesday at the stakeholders’ meeting on the proposed NCAA regulation 2023 in Abuja.

The NCAA explained that scheduled and non-scheduled operator certificates had been extended to five years and three years, respectively.

According to the NCAA, the extension would allow airlines to carry out their operations seamlessly, adding that fees have not been updated since 2009.

“The validity period of the Air Operators Certificate, AOC, has been extended to five years for scheduled airlines and three years for non-scheduled operators just to give AOC holders some freedom to carry out their operations”, Balang said.

The penalties for violators were reviewed upwards in the industry, with the maximum penalty for airlines standing at N10 million while the minimum at N1 million.
