Italy on lockdown as coronavirus cases spreads
Italy is taking aggressive measures to contain the
coronavirus outbreak, including travel restrictions in and out of the country
as the whole of Italy has been placed under lockdown as coronavirus continues
to spread in Europe’s worst-affected country.
"All the measure
of the red zones are now extended to all of the national territory," Prime
Minister Giuseppe Conte said at a press conference on Monday evening as he also
announced a ban on all public events until next month.
According to the Prime Minister, the move was taken in order
to protect the population, and especially the most fragile individuals.
The lockdown will
affect over 60 million people in Italy, including the islands of Sicily and
Sardinia.
The country has 9,172
cases so far, the most of any European country, while 463 people have died of
the novel coronavirus.
