Anambra upgrades two more motor parks
AS PART of on-going effort to tackle logjams and gridlocks
that are becoming daily occurrence on some roads, two motor parks were recently
given facelifts to make them render optimum service to motor vehicle
transporters in Anambra State.
The two parks which were expanded were also fitted with
modern public conveniences, canteens, water bore hole, loading and passenger
bays, among other social amenities in line with international best practices.
They were reconstructed by the state government in
partnership with a private investor.
They two motor parks are the Prof Kenneth Dike Park, which
is located near Eke Awka Market in Awka metropolis and the Dicentflo Park at
Igbariam Junction that spurs to Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area.
Speaking at their inauguration ceremonies, the Anambra State
Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Christian Madubuko said that government
invested in the projects to solve perennial traffic congestion around the areas
and bring reprieve to motorists permanently.
According to him, passengers and commercial vehicle
operators are directed to start making use of the parks, adding that government
will spare nothing to ease traffic and ensure order on roads and highways.
“The essence is to ensure that we decongest traffic around
the Eke Awka axis. All commercial vehicles including tricycle operators will
henceforth use the parks for their businesses,” he said.
A representative of Dike Motor Park Manager, Iyke
Onyekwuluje, said that apart from easing traffic around Eke Awka Market, the
venture was a legacy project to bring the park up to a status befitting an icon
of Prof Dike’s stature and also beautify the capital city.
