Umahi Celebrates Christmas With Vulnerable, Ebonyi People
By Adaeze Onuora Aroh Abakaliki
Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi continued his empowerment
program yesterday by channeling all the Christmas gifts to indigent and
destitute drawn from the 3 Senatorial Districts of the State.
He made the disclosure during the End of The Year Party held
at The Ecumenical Centre, Africa's largest worship auditorium in Abakaliki,
Ebonyi State.
Umahi said he agrees with the biblical allusion " that
the poor will always be among..."the have", noting that neglecting
them becomes a disservice to humanity.
While acknowledging the harshest conditions of some of them,
the governor stressed the need for the wealthy to incorporate the needy in
their schemes of event as according to him, will amount to fulfilling Christ's
message of love and care for one another.
The items donated include: over eight tens of thousands
tubbers of yam, tens of thousands bags of rice, hundred number of cows,
thousands of gallons of groundnut oil.
Others are: onions, salts, seasonings and other condiments
and an undisclosed monetary donation to the indigent.
Earlier in his message, Rev Fr Dr Abraham Nwali, the Senior
Special Assistant to the Governor on Religion and Welfare Matters said the only
instructions he receives from Governor Umahi is how to lift the downtrodden out
of poverty.
He commended the governor for the gesture and urged others
to emulate his kind-hearted spirit.
